Odor Reporting

The township is aware that odors have been detected on multiple occasions in or around 638 Brunswick Pike, subject to which way the wind might be blowing.  Odors escaping from the building located at this address are not acceptable and violate the conditions of the respective site plan approval.  The township has required the business, which is the source of those odors, to preclude odors from escaping the building and has requested the business investigate and test the building for any air leaks and to then seal those air leaks.

The township has contacted the Hunterdon County Health Department and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection about this matter.  Hunterdon County Health Department is the NJ DEP’s agent in Hunterdon County.

In order for the Health Department to confirm an odor complaint, the resident must call and report the odor to the Health Department at the time the odor is present.  The Health Department's Duty Officers are on-call 24 hours a day and will respond to the location where the odor is present and conduct an investigation to determine the source of the odor.    If the odor is verified and source determined, the Department can take further action, which can include remedial action or fine.

Under the Air Pollution Act, odors should be reported to an enforcement agency if it is present in a way that unreasonably interferes with the enjoyment of life or property.

To report an odor complaint, residents can call the Hunterdon County Health Department 24-hours a day at 908-788-1351

Note: the resident must be home at the time Hunterdon County Health Department representative is dispatched to the resident’s address.
